South Africa

South Africa is a country of great diversity, and offers something for almost everyone.

Along the South Africa coast you’ll find some of the worlds most scenic and uncrowded beaches. Nature enthusiasts can search out the wildlife while living in luxurious lodges at private game reserves around Kruger National Park. For wine aficionados, the Cape Winelands are dotted with vineyards that rival the best in France.
Plan to spend at least 3 days or more in Cape Town – it’s one of the most beautiful and vibrant cities in the world. The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront boasts some of the city’s best dining and shopping. For a birds eye view, take a scenic helicopter flight over the spectacular Cape Peninsula, ride the funicular to Cape Point and take the cable car to the top of Table Mountain. You can also visit Robben Island to see where Nelson Mandela was held prisoner. If you have more time, take a drive outside of Cape Town through the Cape Winelands to the historic town of Stellenbosch, Wine tastings at some of South Africa’s premiere wine estates or even a home hosted dinner with South Africans can often be arranged with advance notice. There are several deluxe hotels to choose from – but our favorites are the Cape Grace Hotel and the Table Bay Hotel on Cape Town’s waterfront and the Grand Roche Hotel, a Relais & Chateaux property in the heart of the Cape Winelands.

Kruger National Park and the adjacent Sabi Sand Game Reserve offer a great variety of wildlife and have some of the best areas to photograph the big cats. There are several small luxury lodges to choose from in the Kruger area One of the legendary lodges is Mala Mala, which provides some of the best prime game-viewing and is known for its very knowledgeable, dedicated rangers. However, some of the newer lodges in the area have been created to provide every indulgence in the Africa bush, including suites with private plunge pools, open air showers, private viewing decks, private butlers, full service health spas, extensive wine cellars and gourmet cuisine. We’ve had great feed back on the Singita lodges - Boulders, Ebony and Lebombo as well as Sabi Sabi's lodges - Selati, Bush and the unique Earth Lodge sculpted deep into the earth.
